Violators may be subject to censure in or out of character, brought to the attention of beSeen, LookSmart, the FBI, the police, and/or any other applicable authorities or parties.
These rules apply across gaming systems and allow for some common ground between WoDers, Free Formers, and AD&Ders. In some cases where a formal system of role-playing (such as V:tM or W:tA) disagrees with these rules, exceptions may be made.
Hacking, Out of Character Disputes, and Character/Player Seperation
Hacking: Anyone hacking or threatening to hack the room, the site, any functions related to the site or its functions, chat handles, players' computers, and/or players' sites may be subject to immediate and permanent banning, reporting to beSeen authorities, reporting to the FBI, and/or legal action including but not limited to civil and/or lawsuit or lawsuits. As you can see, we're serious about this one.
Out of Character (OOC) Disputes: Conflicts arising between players will not be brought into the game or the role-playing sections of this site. OOC conflicts must be dealt with through other means of communication, such as the OOC chat, email, or instant messengers.
Character/Player Seperation: Your characters cannot be aware of, react to, or act on the basis of what is believed, said, or done OOC. Your character is not you, and you are not your character. Don't take it personally when someone's character has something against yours, and don't let your character act on information it could not have legally procured within the realm of acceptable role-play.
Pictures, Avatars, Links, and Graphics
Gross Indecency: A certain level of decency is expected in all areas of the site, and while that line may be ambiguous at times, try to use good judgement to avoid being grossly indecent, and in cases where your judgement has failed you, you will be notified and expected to change. Failure to correct the behavior or configurational setting may result in any of the above listed actions.
Copyrights: The VK administrator(s), moderator(s), owner(s), and operator(s) are not responsible for ensuring that the pictures chosen as "Avatars", posted to the forums or message boards, or linked to by users of the site are in the public domain, nor for ensuring that use of such images or graphics does not infringe on copyrights, intellectual property rights, or trademark protections.
Trademarking Avatars: Suitable avatars may be registered to a particular player or character, for use by only that player, character, and/or the legal copyright owner. It should be understood that this does not constitute a legal transference of rights to copy or distribute the image or graphic, but merely protects the uniqueness of the characters. Other players may not use the registered images on this site, but no rights are legally given, taken, or protected by registering the image.
Character Profiles, Character Types, and Magic or Influential Items
Character Profiles: All players are expected to submit character profiles for every character that will affect open gaming.
The character profile must contain the following information:
Character type
Basic physical description
List of powers
Character standard armament/inventory
Notable attributes, abilities, features, or quirks
Character name and chat handle
Notes on the character's past, present situation, and/or goals...
These profiles should be Emailed to VKReincarnate@hotmail.com and will be made available to the public, but should be treated as copyright their original creators and licensed to the site, its owner(s) and operator(s). The information contained in the character sheets should be considered presented OOC, and not necessarily known by any characters. Your character will not be able to use powers not detailed in its profile.
All characters are subject to verification and validation by the site owner(s), operator(s), moderator(s), and/or administrator(s) as seen fit, and judgement thereby should be considered final and not necessarily negotiable.
Character Types: The scope of the site is Gothic/Fantasy. All characters will be expected to fit into this genre unless otherwise given permission on a case-by-case basis. Certain types of characters are not allowed for various reasons. Those types are listed below. Characters of a type listed below which existed before the character type was illegalised should be considered legal if registered within thirty days of being illegalised, unless otherwise noted.
Illegal Character Types:
Wrestlers
Kings and Queens
Unkillable characters, or characters which require special means unavailable to the general population in order to be killed.
Limitless characters, characters with limitless powers, gods, goddesses, and god-like characters.
Dragons and other mythical beasts
Angels and demons
Characters created in/for comic books, cartoons, video games, movies, or characters of that particular style
Characters fitting one or more of the above-listed types may be allowed on a case-by-case basis by special dispensation of the owner(s) and/or operator(s), under stringent conditions. Please note, again: Characters of a type listed below which existed before the character type was illegalised should be considered legal if registered within thirty days of being illegalised, unless otherwise noted.
Magic or Influential Items: Items which possess, provide, or catalyse magical, psychical, or metaphysical powers must be detailed by the player creating them or by the player whose character will possess the item. As with the character profiles, such items are subject verification and/or validation by the owner(s), operator(s), administrator(s), and/or moderator(s).
In Character Disputes, Fights, Brawls, Sparring, Turn-Based Combat, and Blood Hunts
In Character (IC) Disputes: IC disputes should be settled between the characters involved, and should not be taken out of the realm of role-play unless mutually agreeable to all parties involved.
Combat, Fights, and Brawls: All forms of physical conflict should proceed as turn-based (described below) unless otherwise agreed upon by all parties involved. Combat may be initiated by any means, provided that all parties involved are aware of the likelihood of combat before any attack is made. After the initiator has made it clear that combat will ensue, opposing parties must either acknowledge OR refuse to acknowledge the continued existence of the initiating character from then on and for at least a reasonable amount of time. It is courtesy to let the initiator know OOC.
Sparring: Sparring is a term for a friendly form of combat which is neither legal or illegal, but which is to some degree regulated. All sparring rules are to be agreed upon by all parties involved before the spar, and unless otherwise agreed upon by the involved parties, these rules apply:
Sparring will proceed as turn-based, as detailed below
No events during the spar, including wounds inflicted, items lost, powers lost, attributes changed, or deaths should be considered to "carry over" outside the spar.
The spar will not be considered to be occurring within the realm of open role-play.
Turn-Based Combat: Turn-Based combat will occur by sequential action/reaction posts. Sadly, it must be mentioned that your character cannot do anything which is neither physically impossible nor listed in its profile. You should know that.
Each post may contain only one action and one reaction, without stating that the action is successful.
Every action or reaction is considered successful unless contested, blocked, parried, dodged, etc., by an opponent or interloper before another action is taken.
Players are often "booted" -- experiencing hardware or software malfunction or other OOC/IRL variables which prevent them from continuing to role-play immediately. It should be understood that the game is either "on pause" or dropped without resolution until the "booted" party returns, at which point an acceptable course of action must be agreed upon by all involved parties. Basically, you cannot continue to interact with a character whose player is not present without permission to do so.
If a player can be shown to be not "booted" but does not take his or her turn within at least three minutes after being reminded (in case they missed your post), it is assumed that the player forfeits that turn.
Resurrections, Healing, Regeneration, and the Soul
The consent of the player of the character to be resurrected
At least 20% of the character's soul
A character belonging to a player other than that of the character to be resurrected who is capable of (according to his or her profile and current conditions) successfully performing the resurrection.
At least one scrap of the original body, whether it be a hair or a flake of skin
These are the bare minimum conditions which absolutely must be met.
Healing/Regeneration: Healing and regeneration must always take at least some small amount of time. No healing or regeneration may be instantaneous. We don't like that.
The Soul: People get these romantic ideas about being soulless. Fine, so you've got a romantic idea. Doesn't make it true, even in the RP, in this case. All characters here which influence open gaming have a soul, and that soul is currently walking around inside them. At least 20% of it, anyway. Granted, when you've only got that much of a soul, you're a zombie and not much worth playing, but you get the idea.
Questions, Comments, Complaints, Suggestions, Contacting the Bigguns, Resolving Player to Player Disputes, and Miscellania
Use the appropriate message board, email, or instant messenger. Don't fuck with us when we're RPing. That displeases us.
If you have a dispute with another PLAYER, try your best to resolve it immediately and peacefully. If it cannot be resolved between the two of you right away, try to find another player you two can agree on to be your arbiter, whose word is final. If you can't find anybody to be your Arbiter, contact one of the moderators and they'll Moderate or Arbitrate, whichever they feel is necessary. Please... don't take everything straight to the top. Most of your problems can be resolved without approaching anybody else at all, much less the owner(s) of the site.
Summary:
Don't fight OOC. Don't let your chars do shit they can't do. Don't let them know things they can't know. If you weasel, weasel with class. Think. Keep your OOC bullshit out of the RP areas. Try, by God, at least try to be reasonable.
and DON'T PLAY GOD
